The Urge Grows (2022)

Dance performance by German choreographer Ceren Oran for public space based on improvisations during lockdown

The open-air project THE URGE GROWS connects the German, Czech and Slovak dance scenes and will take place on Saturday 25 June at 18:00 at the Republic Square in Pilsen. For viewers from other parts of the Czech Republic and the world, there will be an online stream on the MOVE Ostrava Facebook page.

Afterwards, all teams will head back to their countries to pass on the experience and energy gained in other public spaces. The Urge aims, among other things, to present contemporary dance as a form of performance and to confront it with a wider audience in unexpected spaces.

The Slovak co-production was undertaken by the Orava dance festival Tanečno, while on the Czech side, in addition to MOVE Ostrava, the Olomouc-based Divadlo na Cucky and the Plzeň-based Moving Station are involved in the organisation. There are also joint rehearsals of the German, Czech and Slovak creative team directly under the direction of the German choreographer. We also owe this creative residency to the New Network and its Art-in-res programme.
